001 - The Engagement (Pilot) (bigamy)
After a fire in her retirement home "Shady Pines" Sophia moves to her daughter Dorothy. It doesn't take long and Dorothy, Rose and Sophia have to look for a new home as Blanche wants to marry her lover Harry. Fortunately Rose is plagued by doubts and so she tries to prevent the marriage. (Annotation: see also episodes #152 and #153)
002 - Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding (coming to terms with the past)
Dorothy's daughter Kate plans to marry a "doctor". Kate also invited Stan, which upsets Dorothy. Stan left her after years of marriage and she didn't cope with it yet.
003 - Rose The Prude (unrelatedness)
Arnie is Rose's latest admirer. He helps her to get over her strong feelings on relations during a cruise.
(Annotation: "Arnie" recurrs later as "Miles Webber".)
004 - The Transplant (transplantations)
Virginia surprisingly visits her sister Blanche. They had argued very often when they were young. The true reason for Virginia's visit is raised very soon: in order not to die she wants a part of Blanche's body: a kidney!
005 - The Triangle (relationships)
Dorothy and Blanche fight over who's about to get Dr. Elliot Clayton. He likes both. Rose sets up a tricky intrigue in which the two rivals reunite. Together they send Elliot back to where he belongs.
006 - On Golden Girls (education)
Blanche's naughty 13-year-old grandchild David forces the girls to act. Their disciplinary methods of upbringing show success.
007 - The Competition (pursuit of profit)
A bowling contest reveals Rose's embittered eagerness. Sophia has fallen in love with her former fiancé Augustine Bagatelli. They plan to go back to Sicily should they win the tournament. Dorothy isn't able to share the happiness of her mother at all. She allies with Blanche.
008 - The Break-In (trauma)
Thieves have just broken in Blanche's house. Rose is shocked and doesn't feel secure any more. She even organises a gun. The situation escalates when Rose shots Blanche's most favorite vase.
(Annotation: the vase reappears in later episodes.)
009 - Blanche and the Younger Man (different ages)
A young and handsome fitness teacher invites Blanche for dinner because she reminds him of her mother...
Rose's mother stays for a while. The poor is cared by Rose around the clock.
010 - The Heart Attack (life & death)
Sophia ate much too much and suffers a heart attack. Dorothy thinks it's a coronary and Sophia prepares to pass away.
011 - Stan's Return (sex with ex)
Dorothy's former husband Stan reappears and disturbs harmony. He urgently needs Dorothy's signature in order to sell a piece of land. Old honey-moon memories come back to life and last but not least they find themselves in a motel. Stan's efforts to find a place in Dorothy's heart again come to a sudden end when his girl-friend Chrissy comes back remorsefully.
012 - The Custody Battle (sisterhood quarrels)
Rivalry between Dorothy and her sister Gloria: Gloria wants her mother Sophia to leave Miami and to stay with her family in California. Another battle takes place between Blanche and Rose. Both had applied for the role of "Lady MacBeth". Rose got the addition while Blanche was given the part of "Witch No. 3".
013 - A Little Romance (short human beings)
Rose has fallen in love with a dwarf and compulsorily gets into lots of funny situations. Surprisingly the decision not to have a relationship is not Jonathan's size but his religion.
014 - That Was No Lady (unfaithfulness)
To the horror of Rose and Sophia, Dorothy has an affair with a married man. Blanche wants to get rid of her rusty vehicle in order to buy a new car. She hands out the keys to Rose for a trial and the car is promptly stolen. Finally Blanche is glad about this happening because her insurance pays off a huge bonus.
015 - In a Bed Of Rose's (unfaithfulness)
Rose's friend Al stays over night. Next morning he is found dead by Sophia. Rose has to notify Lucille Beatty, Al's wife. Rose didn't know Al was two-timing Lucille.
016 - The Truth Will Out (fatal inheritance)
Rose's daughter Kirsten visits Rose to come into inheritance. Now Rose has to come clean and has to admit that Charly, an insurance representative, hasn't left as much money as Kirsten used to think of.
017 - Nice and Easy (slut)
Blanche's favourite niece Lucy lives quite a frivolous life like Blanche does. The Girls unanimously want to prevent her from doing so.
018 - The Operation (fear of operation)
Dorothy, Rose and Blanche want to perform a tap-dance. Dorothy gets hurt while doing the training and is sent to hospital. At first she escapes from there as she is very scared because of the operation.
019 - Second Motherhood? (emancipation)
A new toilet has to be installed. Dorothy and Rose try to do the work on their own to present some kind of independence. In the meantime Blanche puts over whether to marry Richard, a man with two little children, or not.
020 - Adult Education (sexual harassment)
Blanche's psychologist professor at night school wants to take up with her in an indecent way. Blanche would pass a course belatedly. She indignatedly rejects his offer. As a complaint at the director's doesn't come up with any results, Blanche swots up for the re-examination.
021 - The Flu (appreciation)
A flu threatens the girls to participate in a charity performance which is held every year. Blanche, Dorothy and Rose long for the charity's award which is finally handed out to Sophia.
022 - Job Hunting (unemployment)
Rose loses her job at the Medical Care Centre and feels that nobody wants her. She doesn't find a new job either. The search comes to an end when Dorothy glosses over Rose's curriculum vitae. Dorothy happily expects the arrival of Barry Glick. He's an old school mate. Blanche fights over to lose some weight in the meantime.
023 - Blind Ambition(s) (blind human beings)
Lily, Rose's sister from Chicago, became blind six months ago and bravely fights for a new kind of self-confidence. Moreover the girls want to get rid of their junk to earn some extra money. They do hard in splitting up the old things.
024 - Big Daddy (wishful thinking)
Blanche gets a visit from her daddy, whom she used to lovingly call "Big Daddy". He realized a former dream and has just become a country singer. However he doesn't seem to be very successful.
025 - The Way We Met (potpourri)
Blanche, Dorothy and Rose are unable to sleep because they've just watched "Psycho" on television. Instead they remember former times while eating pieces of cheesecake. The true Golden Girls pilot!

026 - Take Him, He's Mine (A Shoulder to Cry on) (jealousy)
Blanche wants Dorothy to go out with Stan. Dorothy is appalled when Blanche and Stan become a couple.
027 - End of the Curse (change of life)
Blanche thinks that she is pregnant.
Rose and Dorothy want to grow minks. What a pity - they didn't obey a small thing...
028 - Ladies Of The Evening (arrogance)
The girls are looking forward to meeting Burt Reynolds at a gala. Unfortunately there are only three cards available all in all. The fight ends up in prison - at least for three of the girls...
029 - It's A Miserable Life (environmental protection)
Mrs. Claxton wants to have felled a 200-year-old oak. She suffers a deadly heart attack when Rose insults her.
030 - Isn't It Romantic? (female homosexuality)
Dorothy's friend Jean visits the girls. Fascinated by Rose's naivety Jean falls in love with her.
031 - Big Daddy's Little Lady (mother-in-law)
Blanche is very surprised when her father tells her that he is going to marry the widow Margaret Spencer. At first Blanche doesn't agree with her father's decision. Meanwhile Blanche, Dorothy and Rose participate in a $10,000- song contest held for Miami.

032 - Family Affair (contradictions)
Dorothy's son Michael as well as Rose's daughter Bridget visit their mothers. When they first meet Michael and Bridget can't stand each other. Then the tables are turned... Blanche wanted to impress her aerobics- teacher. As a result she has wrenched her back!
033 - Vacation (group travel)
Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia spend their spare-time in the Caribbean while Sophia takes up with a Japanese gardener.
034 - Joust Between Friends (jealousy)
Blanche gets Dorothy a job at the museum where she works. Dorothy turns out to be better than Blanche. Rose brings along a dog which doesn't please Dorothy.
035 - Love, Rose (lovesickness)
Scatterbrained Rose publishes a contact announcement. Blanche writes a letter signed as "Isaac Newton" because nobody answers her.
036 - 'T Was The Nightmare Before Christmas (christmas)
Rose proposes to celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas. Hence a Christmas with self-made presents. Each of the girls want to spend the Holy Night together with their families. On departure's day they all meet at the counselling centre where they are taken as hostages by an armed St. Claus.
037 - Sisters (sisterhood quarrels)
Dorothy spents a lot of time and money to surprise her mother Sophia on her birthday: Aunt Angela comes from Italy to congratulate. Angela and Sophia haven't seen each other for over 50 years. And they haven't missed each other either...
038 - The Stan Who Came to Dinner (operation fear)
Dorothy's former husband Stan confesses all former miscarriages to her because he has to undergo a bypass-operation.
039 - The Actor (love triangle)
A guest actor appears at Miami's local theatre. He gets into time trouble when he meets an arrangement with each: Blanche, Dorothy and Rose. First they don't know about each others appointments.
040 - Before and After (egoism)
Rose suffers a heart attack because she has worked too much. Having left the hospital she mutates from a cheerful yokel to an egotistical nanny goat.
041 - And Then There Was One (foundling)
Sophia takes part in a walking-marathon, while Blanche and Dorothy care about the participant's children. One baby is left behind by its parents...
042 - Bedtime Story (potpourri)
While the girls are enjoying a typical Italian dinner, which had been prepared by Sophia, they tell each other bedtime stories.
043 - Forgive Me Father (celibacy)
Finally Dorothy has fallen in love. If he just wasn't a priest...
044 - Long Day's Journey Into Marinara (sisterhood quarrels)
Rose proudly guards a dedicated chicken called Bessie. It can play the piano. Briefly after its disappearance, Aunt Angela presents her lunch - chicken...
045 - Dorothy's Prized Pupil (illegal immigrants)
Mario is in danger of being expelled to Mexico. Dorothy helps him.
046 - Whose Face is This Anyway? (beauty)
Blanche feels depressive because she doesn't feel that pretty any more. Rose likes the idea of persuing Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia with her camcorder. When Blanche watches herself on the video her worries seem to be confirmed.
047 - Diamond In the Rough (contradictions)
The girls go to a banquet which they helped being organised. Blanche falls in love with Jake who is the chef. Although he wants to marry her, their relationship doesn't last very long as Blanche prefers to go to the banquet with Hunter instead of Jake.
048 - Son-In-Law Dearest (unfaithfulness)
Dorothy's daughter stays for a while. She wants to get divorced from Dennis whom she accuses of two-timing her.
049 - To Catch a Neighbor (observation)
Big excitement: The MacDowells are the new neighbours of the four ladies. The police wants to observe them because they are suspects. Thus the police quarter in Blanche's kitchen.
050 - A Piece of Cake (potpourri)
While preparing a party the girls remember former birthday parties. Rose has organised a birthday party for Dorothy at a fast-food restaurant but Dorothy doesn't like any of Mr. Haha's jokes.
051 - Empty Nest (loneliness)
Renee is a friend of the girls and suffers marital problems. Dorothy, Sophia, Blanche and Rose know what to do.
(Annotation: Empty Nest is the name of another TV series and a Golden Palace- spin off. This episode was rather boring though.)

052 - Old Friends (diseases)
Sophia often meets Alvin, an elderly coloured man, on the beach promenade. Sophia likes him though he sometimes behaves in a very strange way. He suffers from Alzheimer disease.
053 - One For The Money (potpourri)
A flashback. Among other things: the girls take part in a dancing marathon.
054 - Bringing Up Baby (inheritance)
Rose will only inherit a fortune when she cares about the life of an Uncle's pig. Meanwhile Sophia urgently needs new glasses.
055 - The Housekeeper (superstition)
After a short period the girls dismiss their new female housekeeper. Suddenly, there seems to burden a curse on them...
056 - Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself (trauma)
Rose is asked to hold a speech at a funeral. Because she is afraid of doing so, she is accompanied by Dorothy and Blanche.
057 - The Audit (evade taxes)
Dorothy and Stan meet again - at the law court for financial affairs. Rose tries to learn Spanish.
058 - Three On A Couch (at the psychiatrist's)
The girls want to separate because they don't feel as they would belong to each other any more. Each of them shares a story out of their lives. Finally it's up to Sophia to reunite the girls.
059 - Strange Bedfellows (election)
The girls encourage a local candidate for governor elections. He's a real scaredy-cat.
060 - Letter To Gorbachev (disarmament)
Rose is worried about the peace in the world. She writes letters to Reagan and Gorbachev. Everybody is estonished when she receives an answer. Sophia wants to take part in a talent show for elder people as a magician.
061 - Brotherly Love (genetic make-up)
Dorothy gets a visit from Stan and his brother Ted. She falls in love with Ted and wants to follow him to Acapulco. Rose and Sophia eagerly try to prevent this from happening. Rose suffers from sleeplessness.
062 - A Visit From Little Sven (driving licence)
Rose's cousin Sven from Saint Olaf gets a crush on Blanche. Furthermore he wants to cancel the marriage with his fiancée Olga although Sven had never seen her before... Sophia wants to learn driving which upsets Dorothy.
063 - Charlie's Buddy (wedding swindle)
Rose succumbs to a marital swindler who pretends to be a friend of her former husband Charly.
064 - Grap That Dough (gameshow)
The girls take part in a game show called "Grap That Dough". Embittered competition overwhelmes them.
065 - The Artist (artistic muse)
The girls model for an artist for his newest opus.
066 - Blanche's Little Girl (obesity)
Blanche's daughter Rebecca visits her mother. She suffers from obesity and is being treated in a miserly way by her boy-friend Jeremy.
067 - Dorothy's New Friend (wrong friends)
An arrogant snipe from "The Mortimer Club" makes friend with Dorothy. Rose and Blanche can't stand her at all and tell Dorothy about it.
068 - My Brother, My Father (blessed sacrament)
Uncle Angelo mustn't get to know about Dorothy's divorce. She and Stan still try and pretend to be a happy couple...
069 - And Ma Makes Three (independence)
Raymond invites his girl-friend Dorothy to go on a Bahamas holiday-weekend. Sophia gets to know that in time and thinks she would fly as well.
070 - Larceny and Old Lace (breach of trust)
Sophia gets involved in dubious circles while Dorothy and Blanche try to read in Rose's diary.
071 - Rose's Big Adventure (on one's own initiative)
Blanche's garage has to be rebuilt. Blanche, Dorothy and Rose have to do it because they ran out of money. An old lusty Italian friend from Sophia directs the construction.
072 - Mixed Blessings (racial problems)
Dorothy's son Michael is going to marry a coloured woman. Both Dorothy and the parents of his fiancée aren't really looking forward to it. Racial problems performed in a happy manner.

Dorothy heavily interferes the performance of a children's TV show. Finally she gets the presentator's job...

While Dorothy, Blanche and Rose waste their time in the kitchen does Sophia turn out from one adventure to another, for example in hospital where she cheers up Little Sam.

Rose is sure about having spot an UFO!
080 - Yokel Hero (manipulation)
Rose has been declared as "St. Olaf's Woman Of The Year". She gets very angry and sad when she finds out who has been responsible for that.

Sophia has a little accident. Stan wants to misuse it for an insurance fraud.

Sophia travels to the funeral of her friend Esther. Hardly does she arrive when she attacks widower Max. Finally, Sophia finds out how really nice he is.

Sophia and Max open a pizza shop at the beach. A damaged device leads to a fire which ruins their business.

Dorothy wants to stop the announced marriage between Stan and Katherine. She wants Stan back because Sophia fell ill and it was Stan to comfort her while waiting at the hospital.
087 - The Auction (stop at nothing)
The girls need money for an urgent repair of the roof. They plan something really wicked. They want to buy Jasper DeKimmel's paintures in order to resell them profitably shortly after his death. However Sophia helps DeKimmel to survive and the girls' destiny suddenly goes into another direction...
088 - Blind Date (blind human beings)
Blanche doesn't know that she has fallen in love with a blind man. It hurts when she finds out. Rose absolves a trainee programme.

Dorothy arranges the 40th class meeting in Blanche's house. Trudy arrives as well. She used to be Dorothy's class mate at High School where they were hatching doubtful jokes all the time. A tennis tournament between both ends tragically...

Dorothy takes part in a pizza commercial. At least she tries to! The girls help Rose to get away from her pills. Rose has been swallowing pills against pain in the back since over 30 years...
097 - Little Sister (jealousy)
Holly, Rose's little sister, visits her. Rose can't stand Holly but Dorothy and Blanche do so which annoys Rose. Gary Tucker, Blanche's latest lover, also tries to initiate with Rose.
098 - Sophia's Choice (hijacking)
Sophia abducts her friend Lilian out of the Home. In the meantime Blanche is being plagued by her tits...
099 - Rites of Spring [Break In] (diet)
The girls seriously want to go on a diet.
100 - Foreign Exchange (confusions)
Sophia's friends arrive from Sicily, claiming that because of a mix-up at a hospital, their real girl would be Dorothy...

(Annotation: this illness is called CF[ID]S = Chronic Fatigue [and Immune Dysfunction] Syndrome. 12th of May is "International CFS-Day")
105 - The Accurate Conception (artifical insemination)
Blanche's daughter Rebecca wants to have a baby - by artifical fertilisation! When Blanche finds out, she wants to die.
106 - Rose Fights Back (impoverishment)
When her husband's pension fund is cancelled because of a corporate bankruptcy, Rose is unable to find a job. She starts to fight against age discrimination while Sophia brings along many useless discount articles from a local department store.
107 - Love Under The Big Top (career reorientation)
Laywer or Clown, that's the final question! Rose wants to save the "Dolphin" light tower.
108 - Dancing In The Dark (rendez-vous)
Rose gets to know Miles at a dance bar.

Martha plans suiciding. She pleads Sophia to assist her.

Dorothy on stage: she wants to perform as a comedian artist. The audience boos at Dorothy till she starts talking about her life with the girls.

Rose, who was adopted, coincidencely meets friar Martin from St. Olaf at hospital. She finds out that he is her real father! Sophia has to stand an operation because of a break. She's left behind in an elevator by the hospital staff.
131 - If At Last You Do Succeed (promotion)
Stan presents his newest invention: the "Sporny"! It's a special opener for baked potatoes.

Dorothy's class prepares for the performance of "Henny Penny", a nursury rhyme. When most pupils become ill Dorothy has to recast. The girls take over the parts with Sophia as the narrator, with Rose as Henny Penny, Dorothy plays Turkey Lurkey and Blanche performs as Goosey Loosey. Unfortunately Rose doesn't cope with the end of the story and rewrites it.

Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia travel to the "Maltesse Falcon Club". At first, the girls enjoy the party game. They have to guess who was the murderer. Then, Blanche is charged for murder and therefore she pleads Dorothy to get her out...

Blanche makes her granddaughter take part in a children's contest. Sophia cures in a wheelchair and is cared by the "Angel Of Death" from "Shady Pines".

The permission for a swimming-pool strains on the nerves of the four girls. Nevertheless Dorothy occupies with her ancestry and finds out that Sophia has obviously been married before the marriage to her father.

Sophia finds a holy ring. It belongs to the pope. She refuses to give it back and proposes a deal instead...

An old friend from Saint Olaf visits Rose. Sophia's new boy-friend insists that his sister accompanies them whereever they are. When Sophia complaints she finds out that the sister is actually his wife. The woman was told to die soon and for this reason wants to go for sure that her husband will have a new wife to take care of him.

Dorothy gets visit by her old class teacher, Mr. Gordon. Rose arranges an interview with her local TV station. She wants Blanche and Dorothy to complain in the "Wake-Up Miami" show about the difficulties of living together...

The girls celebrate a full moon night's party in a leap year. Sophia has to turn away a curse from Dorothy. Therefore she has to perform three strange tasks.

The girls are shocked because Rose's recovery is getting worse again. She has to be operated. Distressed, they sit in the waiting room and remember funny times they shared altogether.

Dorothy is out to dinner with Blanche's Uncle Lucas. Back home they announce their fake engagement. Blanche is enraged but finally she agrees. In the meantime Dorothy has fallen in love with Lucas and decides to marry him for real.
180 - One Flew Out Of The Cuckoo's Nest (2) (wedding)
Last episode because Bea Arthur "Dorothy" left the Golden Girls in reality. "Blanche, Rose and Sophia" continue in the follow-up series called Golden Palace where Dorothy appears twice as a guest but only lasted one season on CBS before it was canceled for good.
